The Kitchen helper is a tool I use in my kitchen daily. Many times daily. All of my four children have used a safety stool to help in the kitchen. The first one we owned was The Learning Tower The Learning tower is the original Safety Stool and was developed by a Montessori Teacher who wanted to have her kids participate safely with her in the kitchen. Since then their have been more versions developed such as The Kitchen Helper This version is a lighter stool and also folds up for easy storage! There are many kitchens that are too small for The Learning Tower and so the Kitchen helper is very practical for small spaces. At the moment our 20 month old loves to use the kitchen helper to help prepare smoothies, help with cleaning the dishes as well as stirring soup! Our 3 1/2 year old also uses it daily to help with many tasks. They really love to be a part of my every day activities and they get to learn a lot. I really do not know what I would do with one of these. I know, I would have two whinny children at my feet in the kitchen… Here is a video of our 3 1/2 year old with her friend. We made popcorn together. They felt very important to be “helping”. Here’s our recipe for the yummy popcorn:

    Organic popcorn kernels
    Melted butter
    lots of nutritional yeast

Popped in a hot air popcorn machine!

    Kids love it!
    Enjoy.

  • My 20 month old loves to help in the kitchen. In fact all our children love to help. We love having The Kitchen Helper in our kitchen to allow the children to participate, learn and be a part of everyday life. They have learned many valuable skills by being up at counter height with use over the years. It makes my life so much easier during meal prep times. I no longer have to cook with one hand or be worried when they are up on a chair or sitting on the counter. I can continue my work without worry.

This week, Ian and I made some delicious, healthy smoothies. He was really a big help. He was able to add the spinach and the mango, as well as put the top of the blade onto the mixer container. I will share a few photos and a video of this precious moment with you. Also, here’s the recipe in case you and your little one want to try these delicious smoothies. We make extra and then pour them in Popsicle molds to make awesome smoothie Popsicle. I absolutely love it because that is one of the ways I can get our oldest son to eat more greens! He loves these :)

    Green Smoothie for Kids

    a handful of baby spinach
    frozen mango - 5-6 pieces
    Orange Juice
    Water (1/4 of the OJ)
Some honey or agave if you like

Blend it all together - I use a Magic Bullet and Voila! A healthy drink your kids will love! (Well 3 out of my 4 love it!) Enjoy!
